Have you ever been in a situation where you’re hitting it off with a woman, things are beginning to get cozy, and then some jerk comes over and messes up everything you’ve worked toward? Hey, most of us have. The key to handling this situation is fairly simple. You just need to understand a little about the psychology of social dynamics.

Here’s how it works. Every group has several personality types that make up the social circle. There is usually one person who is dominant, or alpha. The others in the group usually follow his/her lead. This alpha male is the fellow that you need to know how to deal with.

Establish yourself as an alpha. When you come into a place where you haven’t been before, make sure that you display an air of confidence and a personal presence. Stand tall, be relaxed, dress sharp, and speak with clarity. These few details of behavior and dress will let others know that you know who you are and are confident in yourself. This has the added benefit of being an attractive quality that women admire and desire to be near.

Don’t let yourself become upset or angry by the intrusion. If this guy feels the need to intrude, he’s already feeling threatened and is trying to “take back his territory”. Don’t give in to his base emotions by getting angry. Simply smile and ignore him or turn yourself and your lady away from him.

If he continues, then use subtle humor. Keep smiling and act like your joking when you let out some low-key comments or jokes about a flaw he has. Be subtle, not mean. Meanness just increases the insecurity he’s feeling; he has to be dominant. It’s a challenge to him. Keep the joking low-key and subtle. That usually will put him off his game and he’ll go away.

However, jerks don’t always go away. Sometimes they are just looking for a reason to fight. If this happens, just walk away. There’s no need to start beating each other over a woman you’ve just met. You don’t know if you’ll get arrested. You don’t know if he is carrying a weapon. No woman is worth any of that. Just smile, raise your hands slightly to surrender, and then walk out the door. Better to have a slightly bruised ego than be a bloody corpse on the floor.

However, this is the extreme situation. Most situations can be handled easily by smiling, keeping your cool, and using subtle humor.
